RMU Releases Inaugural ESCHL Schedule

2009-12-03

27 Games Already Set; Team Looks To Fill 10 Additional Dates

(Pittsburgh, PA) – The Robert Morris Colonials are pleased to announce their tentative 2010-2011 schedule, their first as part of the ESCHL (eschlhockey.com).  In addition to their 16 league games against #6 Penn State, #8 Rhode Island, #11 Delaware, and #18 West Chester, the Colonials will play four games against perennial top-20 team #19 Stony Brook, three games against ranked opponents at the ACHA Midwest Showcase, two games at the Wooster Thanksgiving Classic, and two games against #21 RMU-Illinois in the Battle of Bobby Mo.  The team is also trying to work out a home-and-home series with #3 Liberty University, as well as securing an opponent for the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase at the new Consol Energy Center, future home of the Penguins.

Said head coach Jason Evans, “We’re very pleased with where we are right now.  Being asked to join the ESCHL, one of the top leagues in the country, has definitely opened up some doors for us, recruiting and otherwise.  We’ve also kept open several dates to play our established rivals, and we’re hoping to bring in some teams from the newly formed GLCHL to round out our schedule.

“We’d also like to thank the teams of the ECHL, and specifically Commissioner Bill Shannon, for allowing us the privilege of playing in the league for the past five seasons.  The ECHL has been a great fit for us and has helped us get to where we are today, but it was time for us to move on.  Having said that, our guys really want to go out on top by winning our fourth consecutive regular season title and third consecutive championship.”

Teams interested in scheduling the Colonials for the 2010-2011 season should contact Jason Evans (evans@rmu.edu) as soon as possible.
